Baseball Canberra is pleased to confirm plans for the 2022 National Showcase Series – Canberra. This follows Baseball Australia’s announcement on the cancellation of the 2022 Australian Youth Championship in January due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
Like the traditional AYC tournament, the Canberra event will take place during the January school holidays and include the Under 16 and Under 18 age brackets with a combination of showcasing and a series of games. The National Showcase Series – Canberra will be held at Narrabundah Ballpark commencing with a data collection day on Sunday 9 January 2022. This will be followed by daily training and games from Wednesday 12 January to Saturday 15 January 2022.
Tryouts for the National Showcase Series – Canberra will be held on Wednesday 8th December. Teams will be finalised after the end of the tryout process in mid-December.
Tryout Details
Wednesday 8 December 2021, 5pm to 8pm at Narrabundah Ballpark.
Note: Athletes need to be at the field by 4.45pm and ready for a pre-trial discussion at 4.55pm.
Wear baseball pants, hat, cleats and bring turfs. Bring baseball glove and bat. Please bring water bottle.
Note: Showcase teams will be finalised after the end of the tryout process in mid-December.

Showcase Details
Data Day - Sunday 9 January 2022, 10am to 2pm at Narrabundah Ballpark.
Showcase data collection is coordinated nationally with all players across Australia participating in the standardised event. Players will be put through multiple tests and trainings that will consist of the following:
· Maximum throwing velocity
· 60-yard dash
· Maximum Hitting exit velocity
· Agility and position-specific testing.
Training and Games – Wednesday 12 January to Saturday 15 January 2022 at Narrabundah Ballpark.
Athletes will be separated into the U16 squad and the U18+ squad. Two teams in both the U16 and U18+ age brackets will compete in a 5-game series as follows:
12/1 to 14/1:
Under 16’s: Pre-game activities from 12.30pm. Game will commence at 4.30pm.
Under 18’s+: Pre-game activities from 3.30pm. Game will commence at 7.30pm.
Games will be 7 inning games.
15/1:
Under 16’s -Pre-game activities from 10 am. Games will be at 11.30 am & 2.30 pm
Under 18’s+:Pre-game activities from 3.30 pm. Games will be 5 pm and 7.45 pm
Games will be 2 hours only.
Australian National Program Selection
The U18 Australian National Junior Camp will be selected from the players Australia-wide who participate in the National Showcase Series. Selected players will be invited to a National Camp in Canberra over Easter 2022. Following this camp, select players will be invited to be part of the Baseball Australia U18 International Tour. The international touring program is scheduled for late August to mid-September 2022 (TBC).

U16 Australian National Championships
The National Showcase Series – Canberra will be used as the first component of player selection for the U16 State team to represent Canberra at the Australian Youth Championships being held later in 2022. Coaching staff for the U16 State Team will be in attendance at the Showcase, so each day you will be proving why you should make the Canberra team. If you would like to be considered for the U16 State Team, it is imperative that you attend this Showcase.

How do I enter the Showcase? Tryouts will be held on Wednesday 8th December 2021 to select two teams for U16 and two teams for U18 to participate in the National Showcase Series.
